Elevating Native and Female Voices via Public Relations in San Diego
There are few placements more meaningful in public relations than securing a client’s voice on the opinion pages of a major daily newspaper. That’s exactly what we, c3 Communications, Inc. (c3), achieved for our longtime client Ruth-Ann Thorn, whose Op-Ed, “The Importance of National Native American Heritage Month,” was published in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the region’s most influential newspaper. Read it HERE.
c3 wrote the Op-Ed to capture Ruth-Ann’s authentic voice and position her as a thought leader and advocate for Native entrepreneurship and women in business. We elevated not just her message but the broader conversation around representation, resilience, and leadership, which is exactly the kind of storytelling c3 is known for bringing to life.
We are so excited not only because it is such a win for Ruth-Ann but also placements like this are very hard to earn for anyone in PR because editorial pages in any major daily publication are so selective. They typically reserve the space for political commentary. However, we were able to demonstrate the importance of this Op-Ed by showing the publication how it tied to Native American Heritage Month while highlighting Ruth-Ann’s authentic perspective, culturally and historically accurate insights, and genuine expertise.
A female entrepreneur, art curator, and tribal member of the Rincon Band of Luiseño/Payómkawichum Indians, we used Ruth-Ann’s platform to highlight the importance of honoring Native American heritage and to encourage readers to embrace and celebrate the Indigenous roots of our community.
This Op-Ed underscores why we believe in the power of public relations with purpose. We don’t just pitch stories; we help visionary leaders shape conversations that matter. For Ruth-Ann, that meant amplifying her message in a way that inspires and educates.
At c3, we’ve always said our job is to make people’s lives better and helping female entrepreneurs like Ruth-Ann share their stories with authenticity and impact is one of the ways we do just that.
With more than 25 years in public relations, c3 Communications, Inc. continues to help leaders like Ruth-Ann share authentic stories that inspire action and make a lasting impact. What’s your story?
